OUR CONGREGATIONAL RABBI
Rabbi Daniel Meyer – Rabbi Danny – has lived in Tel Aviv since 2002 and has been working as an independent Reform Rabbi in the center of the country since then and collaborates with the synagogues of the Reform movement. He conducts life cycle ceremonies in which he combines singing and traditional prayer with modern Hebrew poetry. Rabbi Danny has been teaching a Beit Midrash for the past 16 years to a group of English speakers in the Raanana community.
Rabbi Danny was born in the USA to a Reform family, his father is a Professor of the History of the People of Israel and his mother is a Reform Rabbi. Part of his childhood was in Israel, and this is when he initially fell in love with Israel.
Rabbi Danny immigrated to Israel at the age of 19 and did a year of service as an instructor in the Telem youth movement. After that he served in the IDF as part of the Nahal core that established the Reform Kibbutz Lotan in 1983. In practice, Lotan worked in the development of agriculture in the Arava desert and promoting progressive Judaism in Israeli society.
While at Kibbutz Lotan, Rabbi Danny met his wife Yehudit and they have two adult children.
Rabbi Danny graduated from the Hebrew University with an MA in the History of the People of Israel during the Mishna and Talmud periods, and in 2008 he was ordained to the Rabbinate at the HUC in Jerusalem. He served as a student rabbi in the Rishon Lezion community and served for a decade as a Rabbi in the Ra’anan community.
To this day, Rabbi Danny has conducted thousands of life cycle ceremonies for Israeli families and opens the door to liberal and open Judaism for them. He specializes in preparing children on the Autistic spectrum and Tourette syndrome.
Rabbi Danny also likes to sing and recently started composing traditional texts.
The members of the Kehilat Yonatan congregation are happy that Rabbi Danny has joined us and that he will be leading the community in Hod Hasharon!
