About us

Kehilat Yonatan was established in 2002 as an independent Progressive congregation in Hod Hasharon, an expanding residential town some 15 kms. north of Tel Aviv and in 2019 became an affiliate of the Israeli Reform Movement.

Established in 2002 as a registered charitable organization, our congregation is named in memory of Yonatan Boyden z”l, who served in an elite parachute regiment and was killed in 1993 while on active service in southern Lebanon.

Kehilat Yonatan holds regular Shabbat and festival services in a welcoming, egalitarian family atmosphere and places special emphasis upon the needs of the young. Our congregation sponsors a Social Justice Committee and also organizes educational, cultural and social activities.

Kehilat Yonatan established the Sharon Centre for Jewish Studies, which is a Beit Midrash for Jewish learning. The Centre sponsors exciting lecture series on Jewish themes, which are delivered by the foremost exponents in their fields. The programmes have been very well received by the public at large in the Sharon region.

Our congregation plans to sponsor major additional spiritual and academic programmes on Jewish themes in the future.

After lodging repeated applications with city hall, Kehilat Yonatan was finally allocated public land in 2013 to erect a synagogue and education center and has submitted construction plans to the town’s building committee.

We hope you share our vision and will join our young, expanding community.

Our rabbi, Rabbi Daniel (Danny) Meir, will be happy to assist and advise you on all matters, including those related to Bar/Batmitzvah ceremonies, weddings, funerals, memorial services and programmes for conversion to Judaism.
